Dear Ponies!

I hope you are finding some solace, safety, compassion, brain breaks and energy! I look for little scraps here and there to keep me going!

Pony Prom is this week, SATURDAY March 1st! And I have been LOV-VING all the prom pix ponies that have been shared! What a fine and fashionable group of Ponies we all are! I really wanted to share a picture too but I didn’t go prom. So I thought I could share a pic of myself in high school all dressed up prom-like! But I don’t have picture from high school. When I left home at 17 I didn’t take any pictures with me. It’s kinda okay because I’m not a very nostalgic person. I’m like a shark, gotta keep it moving! Honestly, the formation of my selves got electric when I left my childhood home. So please bear with me while I cheat and post a foto from college in an outfit I would have totally worn to a prom! Another reason I choose this picture is because it was taken at a reading for a Filipinx literary magazine that I worked on in college, and specifically this was the Queer issue. Working with the magazine was one my first formative experiences in a pack of inspiring artist freaks. We worked our asses off to get it done. We held each other up and had each others' backs, even through the all-night layout sessions, the clubbing, and the fights. Now in my life with less drama and definitely more sleep, I think of Pony Sweat similarly as a community where I meet and collaborate with magical artists, where we can see and be seen, where we can encourage and be encouraged! As ponies we work it, together!

Perhaps you are asking, what is Pony Prom? Aerobics in Tulle, Taffeta and/or a tuxedo? Yes and! Sweetheart neckline and kicks? Maybe! PONIES UNWED live band accompaniment to a party Pony Sweat routine AND Fun dance party with Rad DJs? Fuck yeah. What about Special mocktails, light snacks + photo booth play? You better believe it!

Note from Emilia: Apologies Ponies, I TOTALLY forgot to upload the vids this month. I just updated the library, and all February sessions are now available. IN-PERSON EL2R is on Wednesdays at 5:45 pm at Pickle Factory! Please sign up and come!
EL2R is not Pony Sweat, but it will help you Pony Sweat!! Emilia guides a small group in 55 min of fiercely noncompetitive, low/no-impact, strength-building. The format includes mat pilates, body-weight resistance exercises, light weights, and stretching. Volunteer Ponies bring records to listen to together and we participate in the wonderful tradition of sharing music in community! Sorry, Pony packs and passes are not eligible for EL2R! <3

Kid Pony at KCRW Family Day!

Join Pony Sweat at a free, fun interactive day at KCRW HQ! Kids and their caregivers are invited to play and learn through music, storytelling, and art. Listen in to storytime with KCRW’s All Things Considered host Steve Chiotakis, learn rhythm with Silverlake Conservatory of Music, groove with Pony Sweat, become a reporter with 826LA, and make art with Craft Contemporary. Plus, they will have a food truck, photo opportunities, and more!

Children lead the way! This event is open to kids of all ages with most activities geared towards ages 6-10. As capacity is limited for this event, all adults must be accompanied by kids.
